:::Program Schedule:::
Saturday May 3, 2003 >>
| 08.30 - 09.00 | Coffee | |
| 09.00 - 09.15 | Welcome | |
| 09.15 - 10.15 | Keynote: State of the Art – Walt Scacchi, University of California, Irvine | |
| 10:15 - 11:00 | Introductions (30 people @ 1.5 minutes each = 45 minutes) Each participant will be able to describe where they’re from, why they are here, what sorts of things they’re working on and what they want to get out of this workshop … in 90 seconds total! |
|
| 11:00 - 11:15 | Break | |
| 11:15 - 12:45 | Common Features in Software Processes, and their Use in Simulation Chair: Dietmar Pfahl, Fraunhofer Institute Experimental Software Engineering Speakers: • David Raffo, Greg Spehar and Umanath Nayak, “Generalized Simulation Models: What, Why and How?” • Márcio de Oliveira Barros, Cláudia Maria Lima Werner, Guilherme Horta Travassos, “System Dynamics Extension Modules for Software Process Modeling” • Harald Störrle, “Making Agile Processes Scalable” It is believed that some of the major obstacles to applying Software Process Modelling and Simulation in industry can be solved by Generalized Simulation Models. How can these be developed? Can we use some approaches from software development? (such as Model reuse, libraries, “product lines”, “open source & open development”). A possible goal of the session is the identification of patterns or components of simulations for future development as research topics. Three speakers invited from the workshop participants will present their work, followed by a general discussion on the presentations and the topic. |
|
| 12:45 - 14:00 | Lunch | |
| 14:00 - 15:15 | Paper presentation session 1 Chair: Ioana Rus, Center for Experimental Software Engineering, University of Maryland Speakers: • Dietmar Pfahl and Guenther Ruhe, “IMMoS: A Methodology for Integrated Measurement, Modelling, and Simulation” • Ines Grützner, Jürgen Münch, Alejandro Fernandez, Badie Garzaldeen, “Guided Support for Collaborative Modeling, Enactment and Simulation of Software Development Processes” • Leon J. Osterweil, “Modeling Processes for Effectively Reasoning About Their Properties” |
|
| 15:15 - 15:30 | Break | |
| 15:30 - 16:30 | Model Calibration and Validation Chair: Paul Wernick, Centre for Empirical Software Process Research, University of Hertfordshire Speakers: • Wayne Wakeland, Robert H. Martin, David Raffo, “Using Design of Experiments, Sensitivity Analysis, and Hybrid Simulation to Evaluate Changes to a Software Development Process: A Case Study” • J F Ramil & N Smith, “Qualitative Simulation and the Study of Software Evolution” • Dan Houston, “A Case Study in Software Enhancements as Six Sigma Process Improvements: Simulating Productivity Savings” Much of the published work on simulation of software processes emphasises the importance to the authors of calibrating quantitative model outputs to real-world or estimated trends. In a recent paper in System Dynamics Review (“Qualitative and quantitative modelling in system dynamics: some research questions, SDR, 16 (3)), Geoff Coyle suggests that we can learn great deal about a situation from qualitative, un-calibrated models, and that a balance between qualitative and quantitative modelling needs to be struck. Can we learn from this for software process modelling? Three speakers invited from
the workshop participants will present their work, followed by a general
discussion on the presentations and the topic. |
